ABOUT THIS EVENT

In this workshop, we will discuss the practical aspects of launching a citizen-led campaign to catalyze Low Embodied Carbon Concrete procurement legislation at the state level. The discussion will draw directlyon prior successful efforts in New Jersey and New York to enact the Low Embodied Carbon Concrete Leadership Act, or “LECCLA”. LECCLA bills are designed to reduce embodied carbon in concrete in ways that are optimized for price and global warming potential. Chris Neidl will lead this month’s conversation, joined by key advocates of successful LECCLA legislative efforts in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. We’ll overview the general anatomy of LECCLA legislation, and hear how advocates were able to get bills on the books. Our on-going campaign will offer diverse resources to support teams in states across America.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

​Chris Neidl is the co-founder of OpenAir, a global volunteer collective launched in 2019 to advance carbon dioxide removal (CDR) through member-driven advocacy, and serves as an industrial decarbonization policy advocate for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). In these roles, Chris has helped lead advocacy efforts at the state level related to low carbon concrete procurement policy, as well as carbon removal procurement and incentives, and is the co-author of NRDC’s Design Guide for State and Local Low-Carbon Concrete Procurement (2022).
