This Monday: The NYC Carbontech Showcase! Join us.

Monday, December 16, 1pm - 4pm PST @ Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island.

The Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, The 2030 Project and OpenAir invite you to join us at the NYC Carbontech Showcase 2025, where you can learn why negative emissions technologies matter to New York's climate and economic development goals from leading local subject matter experts and practitioners.

ABOUT THIS EVENT
Carbontech refers to diverse technologies that remove or capture carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from the air or point sources and store them in valuable products or in other natural and engineered sinks to achieve negative emissions.

What is the role of cities in the future growth and evolution of carbontech and negative emissions?

Answers to this question are beginning to materialize right here in the five boroughs. In recent years New York has stealthily emerged as a global hotspot for urban carbontech startups, research, and investment.

In this showcase, guests will gain a deeper understanding of core concepts related to urban carbontech and negative emissions pathways, and direct exposure to New York City’s own homegrown carbontech ecosystem. Real world use cases highlighting the various ways negative emissions and carbontech can be advanced locally will be highlighted by leading local practitioners and experts.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone directly or indirectly engaged in or impacted by local climate and economic development policies and efforts. Carbontech innovators, entrepreneurs, and analysts.
Civil society representatives focused on urban sustainability.

WHY CARBONTECH AND NEGATIVE EMISSION MATTER TO NEW YORK CITY

The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projects that by 2050 between 5 and 15 billion tonnes of CO2 must be removed and stored per year to attain net-zero - a magnitude exceeding all of the annual emissions generated by today's oil and gas industry. The value of a future carbontech sector capable of delivering negative emissions on this scale by 2050 has been estimated to exceed $1 trillion.

New York City is well positioned to pioneer urban carbontech to meeting or exceeding its net-zero objectives, while giving rise to new opportunities for economic diversification and local job creation.
