This is CDR: Brazil - ERW Gamechanger

Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) is emerging as one of the most promising carbon removal solutions on the planet—and Brazil is uniquely positioned to lead its global breakthrough. The country’s vast reserves of basalt and other mafic rocks are already being mined and used as soil amendments to reduce acidity and improve fertility. These rock powders are exceptionally well-suited to Brazil’s acidic, nutrient-depleted tropical soils, where they not only boost crop yields but also accelerate the natural process of carbon dioxide removal.
And Brazil is already emerging as a hot spot for ERW, globally. InPlanet and Isometric recently issued the world’s first independently verified ERW carbon removal credits, while Terradot and Rubicon Carbon are scaling new projects across the country. In December 2024, Brazil’s national climate law formally recognized carbon removal as a pathway for compliance in its upcoming emissions trading system—cementing the policy foundation for scale. With the right investment and coordination, Brazil could help unlock ERW not just at home but across other tropical and subtropical countries where similar soil and climate conditions prevail. ERW holds the promise of delivering not only meaningful contributions to national carbon targets, but also improved food security, lower fertilizer dependence, and stronger rural economies.
In this webinar, a panel of leading Brazilian ERW practitioners will share insights into the country’s unique natural, market and policy advantages, current and planned project activities, and its opportunity to catalyze a global wave of ERW deployment in regions where it is most needed and most effective.
