A new local carbon removal purchasing campaign takes off in New Jersey!

Here's how you can join, learn and support, wherever you may be....

New Jersey carbon removal advocates Sue Dorward (Bridgewater), and Jaskaran “Jas” Khaira (Monroe Township) have launched a campaign to buy high-quality carbon removals on behalf of communities across the state —and they’re inviting you to join them.

The campaign, called New Jersey Rocks! aims to raise $5,000 by May 31 to directly pay for carbon removals from Eion Carbon, a Princeton-based company using enhanced rock weathering to permanently remove carbon dioxide while improving agricultural soils for farmers.

So far, $870 has already been raised. All donations are 100% tax-deductible through the campaign’s partnership with Terraset . And there’s still time for you to be part of this local effort, wherever you may be in the world. A contribution of any size helps purchase durable carbon removal, support a local carbon removal company, and help shape a climate action model that other communities can follow follow.

What’s this campaign all about?

New Jersey Rocks! is a volunteer-led carbon removal purchasing campaign launched under the umbrella of the 4 Corners Carbon Coalition, a U.S. non-profit organization advancing carbon removal growth on the local scale. It gives New Jersey residents a practical way to help scale a real carbon removal climate solution: enhanced rock weathering—a science-backed approach that permanently removes carbon dioxide by turning it into stone, while also improving farmland.

The campaign is part of a new global effort taking shape under the umbrella of 4 Corners that will involve dozens of communities around the world by the end of 2026. New Jersey Rocks! is among the very first to get going in the world.

What’s Enhanced Rock Weathering?

Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) is a method of removing carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air by speeding up a process the Earth already uses. (See links at the bottom of this mail for a deeper dive).

Certain magnesium-rich rocks naturally react with CO₂ as they break down. ERW accelerates this by spreading finely ground rock on farmland. When rainwater moves through the soil, the rock dust captures CO₂ and locks it away in stable minerals for thousands of years.

ERW also benefits farmers: the minerals improve soil health, replenish nutrients, and can increase crop yields. Because it fits into existing farming practices and uses widely available materials, ERW is a durable, scalable climate solution that strengthens agriculture while cutting CO₂

How ERW works in 5 steps.

Eion Carbon is a Princeton-based startup that delivers enhanced rock weathering using crushed olivine mineral on farmland, where it captures carbon and improves soil health. One of the few carbon dioxide removal (CDR) companies in New Jersey, it combines scientific measurement methods with agricultural practices to deliver permanent, verifiable carbon removal at scale.

This short video produced by EION zooms in on a specific project partnership with farmers in Alabama:

Why local community-driven support for carbon removal matters.

Carbon removal is now a necessary part of climate action. Even with rapid emissions cuts, scientists are clear that some carbon already in the atmosphere must be removed and stored durably to limit climate risk. Until now, most carbon removal has been purchased by a small group of corporate buyers. That helped get the field started—but it won’t be enough to scale.

Community purchasing helps change that.

By pooling contributions, communities can help move carbon removal from theory into real-world practice. Early purchases—especially local ones—support learning, deployment, and cost reductions, while signaling to policymakers and institutions that public support is real and growing.

There’s still time to be part of this first step. A contribution of any size helps purchase durable carbon removal, support a local company, and help shape a model that other communities are beginning to follow.

Thank you for supporting community-led climate action! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
